X Factor 2010: Matt Cardle smokes a crafty cigarette... even though he's lost his voice

By CHRIS JOHNSON

Caught in the act: Matt Cardle in London yesterday smoking a cigarette, despite having lost his voice and suffering a sore throat

Despite nursing a sore throat and having apparently lost his voice, there was no stopping Matt Cardle indulging his dirty habit.

The X Factor semi-finalist was spotted trudging through the snow smoking a cigarette as he headed to a London studio.

He was joined by the show's stylist and rumoured love interest Grace Woodward, who has admitted being 'very, very close' to the former painter-decorator.

On Wednesday the 27-year-old contestant sparked fears for his health ahead of the semi-finals when he pulled out of a secret official gig.

All the contestants remaining in the show performed at the concert for TalkTalk competition winners in London.

But Mr Cardle was unable to perform and could barely speak.

He attended the event but admitted he was unable to sing - saying he had lost his voice.

He said: 'Everything has been feeling poorly recently. I was recording earlier and it was getting very painful, so I can't sing tonight.

'I just have to hope it gets better for the weekend. There is not much else I can do.'

However, despite concerns for his voice, Matt is apparently unable to hold back on the smokes.

Feeling the strain Cher Lloyd, 17, was also spotted with a smoke in hand as the semi-finalists headed to studios in London to record music videos

He was pictured yesterday at Three Mills Studios in London where he was filming a music video - thought to be the one he will release in the event he wins.

All the semi-finalists record one so it is ready for the time of the final, which is in less than two weeks time.

Fellow contestants Cher Lloyd was also spotted smoking away outside the studios.
